If you’ve ever looked into taking yoga lessons, you’ve probably noticed that there are many different types of yoga available. Most yoga types use an adjective before the word “yoga” to help explain a specific style of yoga or a school of thought. There are many different styles and schools of thought. One of the the most popular type of all is Dahn yoga. Dahn yoga is a new form that has emerged in recent years as one of the types that people seem to like most. Some say that Dahn yoga really blows the idea that all yogas are the same out of the water.

Styles of Yoga

Yoga, regardless of the type, is not a singular entity. Yoga has many facets and subsets to it. These numerous facets and subsets makes yoga into something of a living and breathing organism in the sense that it is not set on one fixed, set-in-stone knowledge.

Yoga has been around for hundreds of years. Even though the exercise is so old, their still is new material to be discovered and learned about it. Every time new material is learned, instructors may modify them to new techniques to create even more new thoughts and methods of performing and teaching the art. Sometimes the focus of these different arts varies from the view other people have of it.

A few yoga variants are meant to relieve stress and encourage relaxation. Other forms of yoga strive to increase flexibility. Still other types of yoga are meant to increase stamina and strength. Everytime a newer version of yoga emerges, the older version becomes forgotten. At some point, the forgotten form of yoga finds it way back into popular use.

Dahn yoga comes from Korea and it places quite a bit of emphasis on the spiritual dimensions of yoga. Dahn yoga doesn’t only focus on physical benefits. This is significant. When the spiritual aspects of yoga are forgotten or de-emphasized, yoga becomes a glorified exercise program instead of the art that it was originally meant to be.

There’s one guiding philosophy behind Dahn yoga. That is that it’s impossible to improve your physical health without incorporating some spiritual component into the practices. This approach to learning and practicing yoga is very popular among those who wish to learn a traditional form of this art. For this reason, Dahn yoga schools have been showing an increased enrollment in recent years.

If you wish, you can consider this article as an endorsement of Dahn yoga. See if you can check out a school this week and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about.
